Theres this girl...?

i really want to be her friend. the only way i know her is because most of my best friends are friends with her. they talk alot about her and i think she's really cool. i dont see her at school except in homeroom. what do i say to start conversation with her or become friends with her? ps- im kinda shy, keep that in mind.
