I think that if the prompt is specifically "how do the reflections differ", your thesis should probably directly answer the question, if in a simple way. So, "In the novel The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the reflections in the armor and the brook represent two differing views of the Puritanical society." Or whatever you planned to argue. If your question was "what do the reflections mean" then your thesis would be OK, but I think that a thesis must directly answer the question posed.
