First you must differ meiosis from mitosis. Mitosis is when a cell duplicates itself and splits such as skin cells. Meiosis is when a cell in the organs duplicate to form an x shape thin split top to bottom and left to right. This causes 2 pairs of cells. 2 with one characteristic and 2 with another. This is why babies have a mixture of their parents genes and have diversity. Hope it helps.
